A is for April Fools’ Day #AtoZChallenge #NotAnAprilFools

I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I participated in the A-Z Challenge.  26 blog posts in one month.  And then eight posts in the next eleven months…EIGHT POSTS!!  No wonder I received the prestigious Least Prolific Blogger of the Year award for the third year running.

I’m a miserable sod so I’m not a huge fan of April Fools’ pranks or practical jokes in general.  At school we always did the ‘hilarious’ smearing Vaseline on the classroom door handle so the teacher couldn’t get in, or putting drawing pins on his chair.  Covering the loo seat in clingfilm.   That sort of thing.

I remember HWW once putting my alarm and all the clocks in the house forward so I arrived at work two hours early.  How I laughed.  Oh, hang on, I didn’t.

Some ‘classic’ jokes.

And some facts and stats from the Women’s Equality Party that are not jokes.

Last year, 5,700 new cases of female genital mutilation were reported in the UK #NotAnAprilFools
There are twice as many men named John who are CEO’s than there are women CEO’s #NotAnAprilFools
33% of 5-year-old girls want to be thinner #NotAnAprilFools
8 million UK women will be victims of domestic abuse in their lifetime #NotAnAprilFool
For every £1 men earn, women earn 81p #NotAnAprilFools
24 million UK women have faced sexism at work #NotAnAprilFools

Have you been pranked today??

  1. In today’s Telegraph there is a compelling story about polar bears. Allegedly one has turned up on a Shetland Island. The article explains how the bear was stranded on an iceberg that he’d broken away. A very good map accompanied The article to show the passage south. It explains that with global warming this could be a regular occurrence in the future. They even speculated that they might invade Glasgow in years to come. It was so well put together, I bet many people would believe it all.

  2. Those facts that are not jokes areshocking! Hopefully by this time next year those numbers will be a LOT lower, or zero.
I wasn’t pranked today, but I did have a look online for any good ones. BMW have a good one about the perfect experience for dogs travelling in the car. 🙂

  3. Haven’t been pranked today, but haven’t been anywhere to get pranked and my wife doesn’t to those sorts of things. If not for the A to Z posts that I’ve been ready I’d likely have forgotten about April Fool’s day.

  4. I am not a fan of practical jokes. It seems to me they are never funny, and at their root, are intended to embarrass or humiliate.
Thankfully, no pranks today in my world!

  5. I am not a pranker, although I don’t mind them if they don’t make anyone feel demeaned or humiliated. Funny is okay. Your list of not okay ones is true and thought provoking. Thanks.

  6. Thankfully, no pranks here either, but then, we aren’t much of a pranking family. Although my husband and kids do like to sneak up behind me and scare the spit out of me, so maybe that counts as pranking, lol.

    Enjoy the challenge!

  7. No pranks, but I wanted to. Last year I put snappers under the toilet lid for my husband to sit on (they made a loud noise), nothing so far, but I’m thinkjng.

    1. I read about a few on the internet but the only one that came close was when my daughter’s alarm went off at 2.30am…a ‘friend’ had set it as an April Fool’s prank!

  8. Sadly I didn’t realize it was April fools day when it happened. I didn’t prank anyone… I’m going back to find people I missed on day 1 for atoz and I have to say I’m pretty sad I missed yours, good points all around and thank you!
